This incredible Hapa + Moku Necklace is a beautiful combination of two of my signature designs: Hapa translates to 'half' in Hawaiian and refers to my signature half rope, half shell design; Moku translates to 'broken, apart, or piece of' and refers to the collection of shell fragments that make this necklace infinitely unique.
Seven inches of surf tumbled shell fragments (all chosen for their deep colors and dynamic patterns) and four chunky pieces of vintage sea glass float on hand twisted rope cord in a random but stunningly organic pattern. Because of its adjustable design, this necklace can be worn long (19.5 inches at its longest) or short like a choker.
The secure adjustable toggle closure is created using a sliding sea glass nugget and cowrie lip. Create a longer or shorter tail by sliding more or less of the rope cord through the cowrie lip, then gently feed the excess cord through the sea glass nugget. The shell fragments can also be gently moved along the rope cord and repositioned so they are centered on the necklace at its desired length.
The cord end is finished with three miniature pukas. The details of this necklace are sweetly feminine as well as durable and functional.
While the smooth and polished shell fragments and colorful sea glass are the stars of this piece, the exposed rope cord adds another beautiful and interesting texture.
Please take note of the way this necklace appears under different lighting conditions. Sea glass will glow under indirect sunlight but will become more opaque in the shade or under indoor lighting.
